MDS Mission Statement

The Massachusetts Dental Society is the organization dedicated to improving the oral health of the public and professional development of its membership through initiatives in education, advocacy, and promotion of the highest professional standards.

 

 

Strategic Goals & Objectives

The Strategic Goals and Objectives of the Massachusetts Dental Society outline the direction for the Society and positions it as a strong, progressive organization designed to deliver membership value. The Goals and Objectives address both current and future issues that affect Massachusetts dentists and patients. They are intended to direct the allocation of the Society’s human and economic resources.

  • Goal 1: Public Health and Well Being - To improve the oral health of the public and influence public-health policy by establishing the MDS as the primary advocate and resource for dentistry and dental patients in Massachusetts, vis a vis all constituencies: members, dentists, physicians, dental patients, dental team members, government and regulatory agencies, academia, and policymakers.
  • Goal 2: Integrity and Ethics of the Profession -  To preserve, protect, and maintain the highest ethical standards of professional conduct in the practice of dentistry in Massachusetts and to ensure the safety and well being of the patient in the context of the dentist/patient relationship.
  • Goal 3: Membership -  To be responsive to the needs and perspectives of a diverse membership within the tripartite structure who are at various stages of professional activity, through initiatives in advocacy and education and by providing services and products that enhance the professional and practice effectiveness of members and their dental teams.
  • Goal 4: Education -  To equip members to meet the challenges of an evolving dental marketplace by providing leadership in dental education through a full range of relevant continuing education opportunities and to enhance the care delivered by the dental team by promoting excellence and consistency in education for dental team members.
  • Goal 5: The Society: Administration and Information Services - Identify strategies and procedures that put into place business management, technological and human resources and information necessary to educate the public, support members’ decisions, and manage the Society in order to achieve its mission in a timely, efficient, and innovative manner.
  • Goal 6: The MDS Foundation - To maintain and fund a charitable Foundation which will use its resources to improve the oral health of Massachusetts residents, provide access to care for those less fortunate, and enhance educational opportunities for those individuals who wish to pursue a dental career.
